Shopping as a spoonie

Shopping at a ‘mall’ or ‘shopping centre’ can be hard even for the average Joe so I doubt it will come as any surprise that as a spoonie it is a big deal. Don’t get me wrong I like seeing all the new stuff and the change of environment but the energy it takes is enormous.

First up is something you may not have even thought of when it comes to shopping; it is the getting there. Is it the bus? Is it the car or maybe you’re lucky and someone is driving you. Even more important than transport is to figure out what you need and make sure you go to the right centre for what you need because you might not be out again for a while. If that means going farther a field or skipping your favourite mall then so be it.

shop till you drop

Having a plan and a list is important. You will most likely want to plan it out so you don’t have to backtrack and spend more time walking around than necessary. Impulse purchases and browsing are fun but if you run out of energy before you’ve done what you came for then it is likely you’re going home with nothing.

You’ve made it this far doging prams and shopping trolleys that seem intent on running you down or the crowd of people that think because your going slower than they are it’s ok to cut right in front of you. Congratulations, you’re worn out. You head to the place that should offer a place to rest and find refreshment; the food court. This place is not the haven you imagine it to be. It is crowded, loud, the seats aren’t that comfortable and finding food that you’re actually allowed to eat is harder than finding a needle in a haystack. While you might think you’re doing your spoonie friend a big favour by suggesting some time to rest here and have a coffee remember sometimes it is just as nice to find a quiet bench and chat for a while.

Ok so there is my rant on malls or as we say here shopping centres, what do you think of them? Are they stress inducing or do you revel in all the hustle and bustle of the mall?

    1. I don’t know if I could drag myself out of bed early in the morning, right now it’s winter and so cold. I go in the afternoon just before school pickup time so all the families are picking up their kids it is a little less crowded that way.

  1. Herkenbaar!

  2. I miss shopping. I haven’t been to a mall even once in a year now. And I haven’t done it in almost two years without anxiety. But oh I miss it so much it makes me want to cry.

    1. What I did to overcome the anxiety was to start off with small shops or park near the door and not venture to far in that way I could get out as soon as it got bad. I hope you find your way back into the mall someday.
